We’re proud to share that FoodStream Network was selected as a finalist in New York City Football Club and Mastercard’s NYC Community Assist program, recognizing community-driven organizations making a meaningful impact across New York City.
As part of the program, NYCFC and Mastercard joined us to film our FoodStream LEARN team delivering a hands-on food and nutrition program for parents and children in partnership with Phipps Neighborhoods, supporting families in affordable housing communities right here in New York.
FoodStream was born in New York in the aftermath of COVID, inspired by firsthand experience our co-founders had working alongside emergency food relief efforts, including World Central Kitchen. That moment revealed both the power of rapid responsean, d the limits of relying on emergency systems alone.
New York City is one of the most complex food systems in the world. High surplus and high need exist side by side, across dense networks of food businesses, schools, community organizations, and public agencies. While emergency food relief is essential, it became clear that cities like New York also need long-term infrastructure systems that coordinate food access, reduce waste, and build resilience before crisis hits.
That insight led us to build FoodStream: a platform focused on coordination, prevention, and system design, using New York as our proving ground. If coordination can work here, it can work anywhere.
Three years in, we’re grateful to see this work recognized by NYCFC and Mastercard — and even more committed to building food systems that work better for New Yorkers, and beyond.
