Edible Kitchen Sustainability Programming Begins This Week 🌎🌱
We’re excited to kick off our 4-Week Sustainability Program as part of Foodstream LEARN’s Edible Kitchen foodstream LEARN’s hands-on climate and food systems education program.
This cycle, 17 NYC Public Schools have chosen Foodstream LEARN as their Food, Nutrition & Sustainability partner.
Through Edible Kitchen, students will:
🌱 Plant and grow
🥗 Prepare plant-forward meals
♻️ Explore food waste solutions
🌎 Connect everyday food choices to climate action
No kitchen or garden required – just curiosity and participation.
Across the next four weeks, schools will move from seed to plate to Climate Action Day, building toward one clear, student-supported action for Earth Day.
This isn’t 17 separate programs, it’s one coordinated citywide cohort.
Progress, insights, and impact will be shared right here on Foodstream Network.
A big welcome to all participating schools, teachers, and Sustainability Coordinators.

Edible Kitchen – Week 1: Planting Seeds & Learning Sustainability (NYC D75)
Foodstream launched our Sustainability Program 2026 this week across 20 NYCPS (it’s a four-day-per-week program)—here is a little video from Q23 yesterday (one of our D75 schools).
Session 1 of Edible Kitchen complete! 🌱
Students explored plant vocabulary using visual boards, planted seeds, watered trays, and learned how soil holds water using an expanding soil disk.
Hands-on sensory learning kept students highly engaged, and our Exit Ticket helped confirm key concepts were understood.
